Local knowledge

Local Knowledge That Matters in Kensington

Three building waves sit side by side here, and each one left something different behind the wall.

The oldest layer is pre-1940: Federation houses and California bungalows in brick, double brick and render.

A heavy layer of walk-up flats and newer apartments sits on top of that core. The other two building eras run through the 1960s to the 1980s, then from the 2000s to now.

That mix is why no two jobs on one street look alike.

Safety switches that were never fitted. Older dwellings and converted flats often have no RCD safety switches at all, and modern circuits are required to have them.

Renovations that turn into rewires. Take the lining off a bungalow and the wiring behind it is frequently deteriorated, so a kitchen job quietly becomes a rewiring job.

Supply sized for another century. Early 20th-century homes were wired for far lower loads than a family runs today, and sometimes the supply itself is the ceiling, not the circuit.

None of that means panic. It means getting someone licensed to look properly before you spend, because a fault found early is a smaller job than one found late.

Double brick is honest about one thing: cable does not travel through it easily. Chased runs, surface conduit and ceiling access all get talked through on the quote, so nothing turns into a surprise on the invoice.

Flats, Walk-Ups and Strata Work

Most of the addresses here are flats. The 2021 census put roughly 71% of dwellings as flats or apartments and only about 21% as separate houses, and that shapes almost everything we do.

Density changes the job. Meters sit in a common cupboard, isolation can reach further than one dwelling, and the work has to happen without knocking out a neighbour.

So the isolation gets planned before we start, not while your kettle is off.

We work for owners, renters, landlords and property managers along the apartment spine of Anzac Parade. Strata rules, common property and written approval before a cable crosses a boundary are all routine here.

Why Kensington Keeps Choosing Us

Sydney is not short of sparkies. The difference is rarely skill on the day.

It is whether the phone gets answered, whether the quote holds, and whether anyone comes back when something is not right. Renters in flats and owners in the older houses end up wanting the same four things.

Turn Up Fast, Answer Honestly

Bookings often land same or next day. A real person answers the phone, not a call centre, and if we are running behind you hear about it before the window shuts.

Our Workmanship, Our Problem

Our workmanship carries a lifetime guarantee, and the gear gets a 12-month product warranty over whatever the maker gives you. If our work fails, we come back and fix it at no cost.

Money Talk Happens First

New customers take $50 off, quotes cost nothing, and the price is agreed before any work starts. We don't charge by the hour, so a slow job is ours to wear.

Six Hundred Homeowners Agree

More than 600 five-star reviews say the same thing, and the Google rating still sits on five stars. That is the whole business model.

How we work

Our Process, From First Call to Handover

Four steps, no mystery. You will know the price before we start, what we found while we were there, and exactly what changed by the time we pack up.

  1. 01

    Call and Describe the Fault

Ring and say what the fault is doing, in plain words. We book you in for a time that suits, remind you by text a day out, then turn up in that window.

  2. 02

    Look First, Quote Second

We open the board, test what needs testing, and put a fixed price in writing. If something unforeseen turns up, the tools stop and you get a fresh quote before we go on.

  3. 03

    Drop Sheets, Then Tools

You get drop sheets down and the place left tidy. Premium gear goes in, the run is done neatly, and the rubbish goes in our van rather than your bin.

  4. 04

    Test, Certify, Hand Over

Everything is tested before we sign off. On notifiable electrical work you get a certificate of compliance lodged with NSW Fair Trading, plus photos and a plain-English rundown.

Emergency Electrical Help Across Kensington

These six do not wait for a booking slot. They are the calls we drop everything for.

  • Burning or fishy smell near the board
  • A power point going brown or warm
  • Crackling, buzzing or arcing you can hear
  • Safety switch tripping straight back off
  • Bare or damaged cable within reach
  • Whole home dead with the street still lit

Turn it off at the switchboard, keep everyone clear, and ring (02) 9134 9029. If the whole street is dark, that is an Ausgrid outage on the network side, while anything past your own board is ours to fix.

Our emergency electrician line runs day and night. A board that keeps tripping needs a proper look rather than another reset, and a switchboard upgrade is one of the fixes.

Compliant Electrical Work, Done Safely

Three things decide whether electrical work stands up later: the licence behind it, the standard it was built to, and the certificate that proves both. Here is where ours sit.

Licensed, Not Handy

DIY electrical work is illegal in NSW, and for good reason. Every job here is carried out by licensed sparkies who are fully insured, so the risk never lands on you.

The Rules We Wire To

AS/NZS 3000 wiring rules govern the lot, from cable sizing to the safety switch (RCD) on the circuit. We build to the standard, not to whatever passed twenty years ago.

Paperwork That Proves It

Notifiable electrical work gets a certificate of compliance lodged with NSW Fair Trading. You get a copy, the insurer gets an answer, and the next buyer gets a clean file.

Accredited and Checked

We hold Master Electricians Australia membership on top of the licence. Licence #452529C is public, so you never have to take our word for any of it.

How we compare

Common questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Six questions we get asked a lot, answered plainly. Anything else, ring and ask.

How much does an electrician cost in Kensington?

We don't charge by the hour. A free written quote comes first, the price is agreed before any work starts, and it stays locked once you accept it.

Do you do small jobs like a single power point?

Yes. One power point, a dead light, or a fitting that never worked properly is a normal day for us, and it still gets a quote in writing and the same guarantee behind it.

Can you install an EV charger at home?

Yes. In a house that usually means a dedicated circuit off the board, while a flat means checking what the supply can carry and squaring the cable run away with the owners corporation first.

Are your electricians licensed and insured?

Yes to both. Every sparkie who turns up holds a current NSW electrical contractor licence, we carry full public liability cover and workers comp, and our licence number is published here so you can verify it yourself.

How quickly can an electrician arrive in Kensington?

Bookings are often same or next day. Anything dangerous jumps ahead of everything else, and a real person answers the phone, so you find out when we are coming while you are still on the call.

Do you charge a call-out fee in Kensington?

No call-out fee to come out and quote. That holds across Kingsford, Randwick, Eastlakes and Maroubra as well, and the quote arrives in writing, at no charge, ahead of any work.
